Little Mountain Ride in Kosciusko, MS

In August of 2019 I was asked to photograph the Little Mountain Ride in Kosciusko, MS. The little mountain Ride is a bicycle race held each year in Kosciusko, Mississippi. The race begins on the historic courthouse square and travels through Kosciusko and the Natchez Trace to Little Mountain.

Little Mountain is at Jeff Busby Park, and it is one of the highest points in Mississippi, at 603 feet above sea level. The riders climb 200 feet in just under a mile to the Little Mountain Summit. The 2020 Little mountain Ride will be held on August 15, 2020, and I will be photographing it as well. If you are interested in participating in the 2020 race, you can find more information here.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to photograph the 2019 little Mountain Ride. It was so much fun! I started that morning at the parking lot outside the Kosciusko-Attala Partnership office, where the riders were checking in. I arrived before daylight because I wanted to make sure I had plenty of time to photograph people mingling before the start of the race.

Because the road was blocked off for safety, I was able to stand in the middle of the road to get a few shots of the riders at the beginning of the race. It was exciting!

I photographed the riders at several points along the Natchez Trace, and also photographed the winners as they crossed the finish line. Then took group photos of the winners. Once back at the square in Kosciusko, I photographed the after-party.

I would like to thank Donna Holdiness for the opportunity to photograph the 2019 Little Mountain Ride, and for letting me ride with her during the event. It was one of my favorite photographic opportunities of 2019!
